HMG/N has been organizing National PPR Control Project from the fiscal year 2058/59 to 2063 to control the disease PPR that infects the sheep and goats every year in the kingdom from its internal source. The major objective of this project is controlling PPR to control the negative impact on the cattle farming business, substitute import and supply the ever increasing demand of meat in the kingdom from internal source. This responsibility has been given to the Livestock Health Directorates under Livestock Services Department. For this program, Central Epidemiology Unit in Tripureshwor has been assisting and Medical Production Division has been producing PPR vaccine for vaccination against the disease. Free vaccine will be provided by the project for mass vaccination and payable vaccine to Livestock Quarantine Check Posts.
Implementation of vaccine program against PPR will be managed in 3 to 4 phases. According to which, in the first phase, the program of vaccination will be organized in the most affected 25 districts in Mid Tarai, in the second phase, 25 districts of mid hilly region, in the third phase, 8 districts of high hilly region and will organize the program in non-affected 14 districts based upon the risk as fourth phase.
The policy to mobilize executive technical assistants, technical assistants and the rural livestock health workers of private sector as vaccinator in the vaccination program has been implemented.
Health check of the cattle imported from India for various purposes, prohibit from entrance if suspected of PPR and vaccination of the cattle before entrance have been managed.
The project has intended to produce 56 lakh dose of PPR vaccine and vaccinate 54 lakh cattle against PPR in the fiscal year 2058/59 of which, 21 lakh dose vaccines has been produced and 30 lakh cattle were vaccinated against PPR. Like wise, in the fiscal year 059/60, 31.74 lakh cattle have been vaccinated and in the fiscal year 060/61, 32 lakh cattle have been vaccinated. |
