AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND EXTENSION PROJECT

The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, established in B.S. 2018 as Food Department, later changed to Central Food Research Laboratory, from 2057 expanded and developed its scope. This department has long been striving for the enhancement of safety assurance in food and feed supplies in the country. Further, the Department has a paramount role in augmenting appropriate food processing and post-harvesting techniques to promote agribusiness and thereby ameliorate the livelihood of the people who are acutely in needs. The nutritional activities conducted during the calendar year predominantly focused on nutritional improvement of different communities inhabiting in various geographical regions of the country.

This department intends to provide services and support to Food Quality Control Division, Food Technology Development and Training Division, National Food Laboratory, National Nutritional Program in Kathmandu and regional food laboratories in Biratnagar, Hetauda, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi and Apple Processing Center in Jumla.
 
Objectives

Major objective of this project is to improve the management and delivery capacity of agricultural research and extension services by development a client oriented specific adaptive agricultural technology and improve extension process. Followings are the main objectives of the project:

  1. Mobilize programs of agricultural research and extension services concentrating the farmers
  2. Promotion and development of agricultural human resources and required infrastructure development for the effective flow of the services
  3. Systematic conduction of extension program
 
Major activities
  1. Improve the management and delivery capacity of agricultural research and extension services
  2. Support in the adaptive agricultural technology development program in the agricultural sector by:
    1. Improvement and management of the agricultural research organizations, determine the priority for communication process and research work and improve in monitoring and evaluation of the result
    2. Expansion of the research program based on the farmers' need
    3. Building physical infrastructure for Agricultural Research Council, Agricultural Department and in the district level
  3. Improving the technology delivery system to improve the living standards of the farmers and to operate the agricultural expansion system based on modern, decentralized and pluralistic institutional environment
