Effective implementation of agricultural development program has been the major responsibility of Agricultural Department. This division coordinates in speedy implementation of the programs organized from central level to the center level, strengthens the monitoring and evaluation process for agricultural development and organizing different programs with required assistance to the farmers in the production of different crops. Especially, this division has taken the responsibility to provide required services and supports for the agricultural production of food crops, cash crops, fruits, vegetables, fisheries and other crops. For the development of different agricultural sectors, this division has been providing services and supporting the farmers in the important programs of crop development, horticultural development, crop conservation, fishery development and market development. Under this division, there are 12 program directorates, 5 regional directorate of agriculture and 75 district agricultural development offices functioning and projects operating in the central level as well. |

| Objectives |
The responsibility to support the overall economical development by agricultural development of the country has been a huge challenge due to the change in the condition of the country and the international competition. Since it was found that the involvement of the private sectors in the agricultural services have better impact, it would be feasible for the agricultural department to work as a moderator in the service management, control and qualitative improvement of the service-oriented works conducted by the private sectors and civil societies. Under these circumstances, it is important to organize the programs aiming with the demand of the time rather than traditional objectives. Therefore, in the coming days, to face these challenges and organizing the sustainable agricultural development program, this department has following objectives:
- Increasing agricultural productivity as per the geographic specification
- Increase the production and productivity supporting food security and increasing internal food supply
- Increase the production and productivity of required raw materials for the expansion of agricultural industry
- Increase the value of agricultural production by managing sound market of agricultural inputs and competitive earnings
- Increase non-form employment generating agricultural small industry
- Support in substitution of import of agricultural commodities and promote export
- Verification of the technology by conducting adductive research
- Balancing agricultural development and environment conservation
